feels luke just another of many things to worry about

anyone else had the same battle with to work or not ?

  • Hia thanks for your reply i too work in a high stress environment and dauky keep changing my mind about going back after this leave my MDT meet is today so that may determine my next moves anyway as they have already said they may not be able to cure which is terrifying- keeping well physically and mentally is my main focus - appreciate you taking the time to reply

  • Donny.  I hope it went well today.  And that a plan is in place soon to fight this horrid disease.

  • Hia well they told me i i have a spot on lung and newr groin as well as the bowel and liver i alresdy knew about so its been a shock but to be honest now i know my treatment plan i feel much more level headed and eill be im for stoma in 2 weeks so work is definitely taking a back seat now - thank you for asking x

  • Hi Donny.  It’s very true once you know what’s what and the doctors give you a treatment plan the relief is amazing.  Keep on keeping on you’ll surprise yourself with what you can deal with.  Positive prayers I’m sending.

  • A plan really gives you an idea where you're going and gives you some sense of control.

You'll need a little time after the stoma to get used to managing it. You won't feel confident at first. So unless you work from home, plan some time off around this.

  • Hi Donny1, so sorry you're going through this, it's hideous I know. As others have said,  it'll depend on you response to treatment and you'll need to keep flexible if possible . I adore my work, I'm a nurse practitioner and hated going on sick leave as never usually take a day off but was forced to with the emergency surgery and discovery of my cancer. I then stayed on sick leave for the duration of my chemo and a further 2 hospitalisations as was literally too wiped out to function, so needed 8 months off in total. Thankfully I had extremely supportive employers and it makes me so sad to think if that isnt the case for everyone, this is all hard enough to deal with. However,  you may sail through it, as some do. I relished returning to work on a phased return as so needed that distraction and routine again. Wishing you every positive thought, take care x

  • It’s insane how your whole world is turned upside down in such a short space of time, my career has really taken off this past 2 years and i was loving it - im mow having to be off for surgery next week for colostomy then chemo and radio so ill just have to see what happens- thank you for replying x

  • Hi  sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis but you’re in the right place for extra support. I have worked through my treatment however taken time off if physically unable to. I’ve found trying to maintain a bit of normality helps me mentally I go stir crazy at home. Take each day as it comes. Good luck with your treatment

  • Thank you for reply x
