I'm 76 and just had an op to remove a tumour and part of my large intestine.
Due to COPD, the only chemo on offer is Capecitabine and in order to make a YES/NO decision, I would like to hear how others have fared with any side effects.
Hi Seashell, I coped pretty well with the surgery. Had the op on Thursday morning, discharged on Monday. I had family members staying for the first 3 weeks after that, then I managed on my own. (I live alone). I should add it was laparoscopic surgery, where they only make small incisions, and I understand that recovery from open surgery takes longer. Sounds to me that your mum should be fine and I am surprised you were told that. Wishing you and your mum all the best,
Karen x
Hi CxO,
thanks for asking; we are seeing the team today to find out. I suppose a lot hangs on that liver scan. It’s been a bit of a wait which isn’t ideal. I will let you know.
Thanks for your reply Karen,
that’s good to know- I think they were talking about open surgery in mums case as there were some lymph glands probably involved. We are seeing the team today, so should have an action plan soon,

Unfortunately there is spread to her liver and possibly peritoneum so stage 4 now. Wait now for a liver PET scan to see if her liver can cope with any chemo, she’s well at the moment so just have to make the best of this time together,
