Abdominal Bowel Resection

Hi - Glad the op went well. Your perineal wound will look like a Cornish pasty for a while (that completely disappears) and yes, it takes many weeks to heal but you'll get there. I can even sit on thin bike seats now (that'll bring a tear to your eyes). The bladder gave me a tough time, I had a catheter in for 6 weeks (during covid so I had to wait extra time before I could be seen for removal) I also had numbness in strange places - all sort themselves out in time. Here if you experience anything you need advice on. Heal well and look after yourself :-)

Hi Steve - I was wondering about cycling then realised that I could probably lose a bike up there at the moment! I'll do my best to heal well. No doubt you'll be hearing again from me before too long. Meantime thanks again for you support and advice. Keep well and keep smiling. Cheers

Thankfully, i never enjoyed riding a bike anyway lol, so i dont miss it. Driving was interesting in the early days and the pasty does take a while to reduce but the pain goes pretty quickly to be replaced by a llittle weird discomfort and eventually all settles down. I'll say once again that life with a stoma is perfectly easy and has certain advantages even!! You'll be able to change in a layby or even a car park!

I just wanted to add that people shouldnt worry too much if their barbie/ken bum feels weird and slightly numb at first.I was told this was because the nerves dont always match up to begin with and have to grow where its been stitched(if that makes sense)

You can multitask whilst doing other things so saves lots of time.
