Hello all,
I pop in from time to time had an appointment with my consultant last week all was good last scan was clear and I'm due another CEA blood test which I booked for 27th June first available appointment! So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a low number. He was very pleased with me saying g I've delt with everything incredible well from 2019 when I almost died !!
Went to our local Bowel cancer support group on Monday run by our specialist nurse team and mcmillan qere there giving a talk on the psychological side of cancer,it was really interesting and gave good anxiety techniques for scan anxiety.
at Dx (just prior to surgery) my CEA was 0.5 !! Go figure. Haven’t had a test since But chemo can increase it. I wouldnt put much faith in it unless it was sky high. In my case a low reading was certainly misleading.
Just found an old post on the BCUK board where someone was asking the nurse about CEA levels. She asked her oncology colleague about it and he said 20% of patients have no increase in CEA even if they develop metastasis
