Hi all,

I have recently had a colostomy and my anus has been sewn up.

This is almost a month ago and sitting is still very painful as the wound is still sore and weeping.

  1. My nursing staff keep offering the same advice of shower the area regularly and it will get better. I have no dressings of any kind and had no other advice.

Are there any dressings, creams, treatments, sitting aids, clothes, etc that might help speed up the healing...?

Please help if you can,

Many Thanks.

Thank you Court for your time and introductions.

It's amazing how much knowledge there is out there.

If you have followed this thread you will already know the following but if not I thought it would be nice to reply to you since you took the time to help..!!

I have been through a few surgeries now and find access to life saving surgery through the NHS an absolute privilege.

I have struggled in recovery each time though and have had to go outside the NHS for specialist help on the recovery side of things.

I have just found a wound care specialist who says there are lots of specialist dressings and topical treatments that are just not part of the NHS package but will help my wound heal much faster.

This is not a "quack" but an NHS trained Dr and professor so i'm sure the information is correct.

I'm going to give this a go and will report back to this thread if successful as it sounds like this might help other people if it works.

Many many thanks for your help,

    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,

I'm glad you've managed to get a little bit forward with your wound, and I would be very interested to hear how you get on. You know yourself just how tricky this wound is! Hope you get excellent results!

    Take care,

    Linda :-)

  • Hi I had full apr and it took a year to heal, althou I was having wound packed daily by nurses.

I think it was about 10 weeks before I could sit for short periods of time.

Ask at your post op about your wound

    Hi Court,

I said that I would report back any progress so I am living up to my promise.

I have used an online service called woundcare solutions.

They are approved by the NHS for support to doctors etc. all over UK hence I had confidence to have a go.

They sent me a pack with emollient soap, 3m barrier cream, disposable pants, and gave me a regime of cleaning and care including pressure relief.

The increase in comfort was almost immediate, my wound is now much less sore, no redness less leaking, I feel I am on a proper controlled route to it healing rather than pot luck.

I would recommend this to anyone who is struggling with a wound that isn't healing....

    How about that...!!! Bloody fantastic

    Many thanks Court
