Hi guys after successful surgery for bowel cancer I am now due to start chemo in a couple of weeks. The drug I am due to receive is Fluorouracil for 1 day a week for 30 weeks intravenously. I was looking for people's experiences and how they dealt with the side effects and working. Regards Mark
The surgeon was happy with his work after examining my bowel he just said it was abit swollen and I was abit bloated. This may account for the stomach cramps, gurgling and rumbling and abdomen and stomach pain I am getting more frequently. I have now gone 24 hrs without opening my bowels which I think is linked to the cramps and gurgling last time once I had opened my bowels everything settled back down.
Regards Mark
just wondered how you were getting on?
I have finally finished my 30 weeks on the 11th. No celebrations as I am feeling tired most of the time. Time for reassessment then recovery I think, to get fit again, and find my new normal. New year, new start again, this time on the AddAspirin trial.
Regards
Hi Gemmary
That's great news definitely time for recovery and maybe a little getaway. For me I am now 10 weeks in out of the 30 and had to have the dose reduced due to severe stomach cramps and constipation. I have had a a few bouts of the constipation and severe stomach cramps before I started with the chemotherapy but nothing like the last few weeks. It could go on for upto a week at a time while on 2x laxatives and as much buscopan and lansoprozole as I could take. So hopefully this has an effect and for good measure now I am taking movi-col every other night to try and avoid more bouts. It's strange though as if I don't go for say at least 5 hrs I definitely know I'm constipated and then the trouble starts. On a brighter note I should have chemotherapy on boxing Day but there closed so changing from a Thursday to a Friday for new year.
Regards Mark
good to hear you are continuing, not so good re the side effects. I got away with using senna when I needed to. Yes you get a sixth sense when you are constipated even if you pood within the 24hrs. There is a definite sense of 'backing up' and in my case I've never burped so much, or needed to burp!
I agree with the 5hrs, as I find an average day is 4 or 5 mini poos, so less than that gets suspicious!!
Enjoy Christmas as much as you can. Any questions I can help with please ask. I am currently waiting for an appmt for a CT scan, so will start to plan more after that, don't want to tempt fate!
Regards
Hi I've just finished 30 rounds of 5fu half while been pregnant. I found the more I had the more symptoms I had, i was on sick leave for 3 months then maternity leave. I had horrible cramps like constipation then diarreah but oncologist prescribed me buscapan and laxatives which I took on my day of treatment. I had a headache the day after each one, felt very tired, dry skin, bruised veins, felt sick but now 3 months on with baby here and no side effects from both of us I consider myself luckily as there are far worse reactions I could of had.
Hi Lilnlarge
Wow wow wow is all I can say.....you have been through the mill. So happy for you with the now and both you and baby healthy . I am currently on dose 12 of 30 as of yesterday the actual does was reduced slightly a couple of weeks ago due to the severe stomach cramps and gurgling and rumbling stomach noises and trapped wind n bloatedness n constipation/diarrhea.
Regards Mark
Yes thanks both good had CT scan and MRI both clear as i couldn't have CT while pregnant. Just waiting on the dreaded colonoscopy in the new year as I'm on the waiting list. Baby boy is now 8 months old and a very cheeky, crazy little thing! Hope your doing well
