My history: (I was in this form in 2018 but can't find my log in!)
2018 - Bladder Cancer - 2 x TURBT - multiple tumours removed - one year BCG treatment.
Series of clear cystoscopys for just under 5 years.
Oct 23 - reduced kidney function identified/ultrasound/CT scan - kidney not emptying
Dec 23 - Cystoscopy to investigate blocked ureter tube, couldn't see ureter opening as bladder lining abnormal and thickened - TURBT to remove - awaiting biopsy. (kidney still blocked!)
So I've spent Christmas with post TURBT discomfort, Dr said high possibility that this is a recurrence, I'm terrified. I know I'll need another anaesthetic soon to sort out further stuff even if just for kidney.
40's Mum of 3, working and just too busy for this :-(
To add to this I had my hip and femur shattered by a horse Dec 2022, 11 days in hospital, all pinned but have non-union (bones not joining back together). Have been in pain and discomfort with this for the past year (next x-ray Feb 24) - I'm just exhausted and don't feel strong enough for cancer again.
Great that the op is very soon. It's the waiting that drags you down. I haven't had a RC (yet) but I did have a hysterectomy when I was in my late 40s. I remember feeling pretty groggy for a couple of days, but we were encouraged to get up and moving asap. The worst bit was trying to have a poo after such a long anaesthetic. Particularly since just as I was about to achieve success the hospital fire alarm went off! Put me off my stroke so to speak. You've got a brilliant attitude PurpleSparkle which will carry you through. All fingers are crossed for you. Hx
Good luck PurpleSparkle!
I had this surgery in March 2023.
Just want to encourage and support you by telling you I’m making excellent progress to date!
I was also on an enhanced programme!
I didn’t eat solids before I started to pass wind which is an indication that the bowel has woken up!!
I then went on to low residue foods and drank plenty of water. Also was given daily doses of laxido for bowels which were reluctant to move.
I was up and walking a few steps the day after my surgery.
I have found invaluable support from this group and also my local urostomy.group. Your CNS should be able to give you details of your nearest group. Their practical experience is second to none.
I will all be over soon. Remember to be kind to yourself and take baby steps.
Looking forward to hearing how your progress goes.
Kiko
