Worried again

Hi all, I posted here a few years ago with concerns over anal cancer. Fortunately despite having HPV, my surgery was clear and no cancer found.

I did have an anoscopy at the Homerton hospital last May and they found 1 area of LSIL (low grade changes) and an area of chronic inflammation. I was discharged as they said it was a low grade change that had no P16 staining. I wasn’t happy about this, but despite me raising concerns they wouldn’t consider a follow up.

Fast forward till now, I have been experiencing some symptoms again, although completely different to last time and now anal cancer is concerning me again.

Can I ask what your original symptoms were?

The two haemorrhoids I have had for years are not really troubling me at the moment, which is rare because I usually suffer from chronic constipation, but the last few months I have gone the complete opposite way for no apparent reason. Loose stools, often skinny, an urge to go but when I get there it’s gone, loss of appetite, wind that feels low down in my rectum and lots of gurgling sounds whenever I eat. Does that sound familiar to any of you? GP done a FIT test which came back with a score of 7 and she isn’t concerned. I hope it is ok to write here without any formal diagnosis. Thanks Sarah

  • Definitely keep pressing for further investigations, listen to your gut, especially with you history of cellular changes. Personally I had no symptoms apart from a  external polyp that had been there for ages but out of the blue it bled a couple of times when I wiped after going to the loo, I got it checked out & the rest is history so to speak.
