COVID-19 advice for post transplant patients

Hi all,

Following all the recent guidance that has been flying about, I decided to contact my team direct and this is what they said to me this morning:

“It is our strongest advice to follow the guidelines set out by the NHS as much as possible. We know that even several years post-transplant the immune system has not fully recovered.”

So I think the official advice is to follow the shielding guidance, but whether or not you want to follow that is of course a very personal decision.

Sending loads of strength and love. Hope everyone stays safe.

Greg

  • Hi Lynda, I know a few folks North of the border who are still on course for both types of SCT and regular chemo treatments on the whole where it is urgent is still going ahead...... but as we know - everything can change in the blink of an eye......Highlander ((hugs)) coming your way.

  • Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I got my meds today and Tesco contacted me to say I am on their priority list and would I like a delivery on Monday. Keep hanging in there everyone, the wheels are turning slowly but I think everything is getting there and I hope that everyone who finds themselves on the extremely vulnerable list will get the support they need very soon.

    All the best

  • Hi Greg,

so glad you got those meds! And yes, daughter has been able to get Tesco slots.
as an old biddy I registered on the phone system and found Sainsburys slots opening up here, so in isolation, we are coping too.

  • The highly vulnerable text arrived today whilst I was out walking my dog!! I guess I made round 2 of the notifications.

To be honest not sure I can actually cope mentally not going out for a walk each day.. Where I live is quite rural and I can't see it is any more of a risk than living with my wife who works at the regional hospital as a nurse.

Apart from which how can you refuse those big brown eyes all day staring at you!! Joy (that's the dogs not the wife!)

  • It took over a week from registration with my local authorities but I now have a contact number for getting my prescriptions picked up and delivered by the local authority virus emergency team Clap

  • Hi Paul,

It is an intensely personal decision whether to follow the shielding guidance. I am following the guidance about not stepping past the boundary of my property but I am not maintaining the physical distance aspects within the house (it would just not be good for me to stay away from my family at this time). My team said to follow the guidance “as much as possible” - I am taking that to mean take it seriously and do the best you can - which I feel I am doing - and I suppose everyone has their own take on what that means for them.

    All the best
