Hello everyone I haven't been in contact for a few weeks but need you all now. I have had my PET scan (after radiotherapy) and go for the result this Friday. If it is cancer clear I will start the transplant process on Monday 8th. Am getting very anxious now keep thinking "what if" Can't begin to imagine how I will be if it's a bad result. I have already had three sessions of Chemo  which all failed to clear the cancers. I think they call it "Refractory" DLBC. Any advice?

Dear Mile Many thanks for your message, you always find the right words! Am trying to get out more but I still feel weak I try to walk a mile once a day when the weather is OK and have done a little gardening. Just praying I get stronger now and nothing else bad happens.  Gwen xx

  • Hi Gwen,

walking a mile is terrific! Take care of yourself, and don’t push TOO hard! I know it’s frustrating but think back to how you were when you left hospital, and how far you’ve come?

A SCT is bigger than a major operation, so give yourself a hug for getting this far this well!

  • As Moomy says this does take time and a mile a day - look at you..... well done that is just amazing.

I would say that it was the summer last year that I actually thought that I was near a place that was something like my old self, that was 2 years 9 months.

    Big encouraging ((hugs))

  • Hey Gwen,

Your body has been through a major procedure that causes a massive shock to the system. The fact you’re able to walk a mile a day is great, it’s literally steps in the right direction if you excuse the pun. The thing to remember is we are all different and our bodies will recover at different speeds. The fact you’re cancer free is what you should be focusing on the most. In the meantime just listen to your body and we’ll done.

    Regards

  • Hi Gwen

You're doing really well!  It's still relatively early days - you are only six months or so post transplant.  I was feeling much the same as you, this time last year and I certainly couldn't manage to walk a mile!   I still don't, most days.

It's wonderful news that you are cancer free. We all get impatient and want to be over it all yesterday but, as moomy says, SCT is a very major procedure and it takes some getting over!

    Regards, Sheri

    Hello Gwen,

Just caught up with you and I hope this finds you in a better way. I'm not on the SCT path as they want to do bone marrow transplant, but whatever happens I'll think of you and it'll encourage me. I'm only a youngster btw at 65.

I'm constantly amazed at how everyone here is so positive and its definitely helped me cope so far. Keep getting better anyway and take each day as it comes, maybe next year will be totally different.

Dear Sheri  Many thanks for message. It has been really tough but I am finding small improvements every day. I still get flash backs about my stay in hospital  and I have to say I am still very unfit. I started an exercise class last Friday , only 1 hour but I felt as though I had been to the gym!!  Looking forward to this weeks class though, it really made me realise just how weak I am.Am trying to increase my walk bit failing , possibly due to the weather. Take care  Gwen

  • Good on you Gwen, you will see the improvements over the weeks. I actually got a set of resistance band to do some of the exercises at home and I do find if I don’t do them my muscles and nerve pains start showing their ugly face ((hugs))

  • Hi Gwen,

good for you! Joining a class is a great idea, a formal way of ensuring you get some structured exercise. Yes, the weather really hasn’t helped us walkers, I managed to do a couple of miles plus today, the weather has been a bit kinder down on the south coast (away for a week) but it’s still been wet at times today, hopefully it will improve enough for some trips out and about. I was able to change my yoga class this week, too so that I didn’t miss it.

    Hugs xxx
