Hi all. I’m new to this group so bear with me! I’m 37, live with my husband, and 4 weeks ago my dad moved in with us after having a colostomy fitted. He has bowel cancer. It has spread to other organs. The operation was to save his life, now he can have chemo to prolong a little bit more. He is suffering which is hard to watch, and swings between wanting to fight and giving up.
I just wanted to join somewhere where people may know what I’m going through! Talking to friends helps but no one can completely understand. Anyway thanks for reading my ramble and may speak to people soon!

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear that your dad has been diagnosed with bowel cancer which has spread to other organs in his body. It must be a very worrying time for the whole family and I can understand your wish to talk to others who will understand what you're going through.

As the community is divided up into groups, I'm going to recommend a couple of groups for you to consider joining. They are the bowel cancer group, where you can ask questions and share experiences with others who have the same diagnosis as your dad, and also the carers only group, which is a safe and supportive place to share your worries.

To join either or both just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
