New Joiner-Breast metastasis-bone+liver cancer

Hi

I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, about 10 years ago, was cleared, then got non-invasive bladder cancer, clear nearly 7 years.

However, just over a year ago unexpectedly, I was diagnosed with Breast metastasis, cancer related to this has spread to spine bones, but also the liver.

I was put on new treatment but was sick on it. I won't know more until I see my oncologist this week.

Took me months and months to cope. I took Ill-health retirement from work. My husband is very supportive, family and friends. Sometimes I'm OK, sometimes I'm down. I am finally receiving counselling.

I don't drink, don't smoke. (Thought of Adam Ant song just then) I feel it is my fault somehow.

I feel tired. Feel low at times. Just feel that my life has been stolen.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

A cancer journey is such a stressful and challenging time but you have done the right thing in reaching out to a place where you can ask questions and getting support from others who are on the ‘exact’ same cancer journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our supportive Breast, secondary cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

If you'd like to connect in with a group click on the (Bold) Group Link I have created above. Once the group page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."

You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New or + (Depending on the device you are using) and you are ready to go. You could copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open from 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 where you can talk with someone about specific cancer and practical information, get emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just connect with a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

We also have our Telephone Buddy Service where you can be matched with someone who understands what you're going through, and they'll give you a weekly call.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and aim to give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help.

  • Hi Ladyfoxxp,  I just wanted to say Welcome. Mike has given you all the information you will need to get started. Now that you have joined the forum, you will always have someone to talk to.

How can it possibly be your fault? You didn't ask for this diagnosis, none of us here did. I don't drink or smoke either it makes no difference. My brother in law was dx with liver cancer, he never smoked or drank so why would he blame himself. Cancer doesn't discriminate between old or young, smoker or non smoker. The one thing I have never thought was "this is my fault" or "why me". What good would it do? I hope you feel better once you have seen a counsellor a few times. Where there's life there's hope and they are always coming up with new drugs and treatments for all types of cancer.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. Sorry to hear about your  brother-in-law. I lost my mother and several relatives to cancer. I will  remember those three lines at the end of your post.

I will try not to worry and achieve what I can and try enjoy the  things that I like and time with family and friends.

It is easy to blame one's self and dwell on the past. I must deal now.

    Thanks again.Rose

  • Hi, Thank you for your reply and yes I liked the phrase too. It is very true. Yesterday we can't do anything about or change, tomorrow we have know idea what will happen, so why worry and today is definitely a gift, especially if we can enjoy it.

Do you have a date to see a counsellor yet, or is it in the pipeline?  The Bakeoff on TV says Stand Up To Cancer. You should be walking tall as you are doing just that every day, just Iike the rest of us here!

  • The last line should read " just like the rest of us here!

I have edited it three times but it wouldn't change! Sometimes this site has a mind of it's own!

  • I will fund out tomorrow if my blood test is ok to continue with treatment.

  • Hi Ladyfoxxp, I am so sorry to hear the news was not what you wanted to hear but please remember no one really knows how long anyone has, even the specialists. I wonder have you discussed going on a Trial or anything?

As Thehighlander has said, please come and join the "Living With Incurable Cancer Group" where you will find me and lots of others who have passed their predicted "sell by dates". They used to say Terminal but now they say Incurable which gives you hope.

The idea is not to dwell on how long but to enjoy each day as it comes by living it! I will look out for you in the "Incouragables" which is what we call ourselves. We haven't lost ur sense of humour, in fact it is how we carry on.

I will look for you joining the Group and welcome you there.
