Hello...I was taken into hospital at the end of October with pneumonia and was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. It didn't come as any big surprise..however,, dealing with the diagnosis, the prognosis, the scans, treatment plan etc. etc. has been so hard..I suffer awful panic and anxiety attacks, I find it hard to talk about & I seem in a constant state of fear. My 3 grown up kids seem to have accepted everything about my terminal illness..I feel lost and very alone with it. ,

    Hi

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and, having faced an incurable diagnosis myself, I can really understand what you mean when you say you’re in a constant state of fear. Please do come and join the incurables group. You might find it’s too hard to join in at first and that’s completely ok. You can just to read and take what you need and what you find helpful until you’re ready.

Can I raise a question? Has your oncologist used the word “terminal”? I know when I was told that the cancer was incurable my mind jumped immediately to terminal. I felt as though I was dying.  The reality these days is that new treatments mean many of us are treatable but not curable. We are living longer than would have been expected even five years ago. I’ve been living with incurable cancer for nearly four years now as my docs have found new drugs and clinical trials that have kept the cancer under control. During this time I’ve learned to manage the fear and anxiety and yes, I’ve learned to live with the cancer rather than die from it.

I really hope to see you over in incurables. It’s my lifeline and I’ve made real friends there who know what it’s like, who just get it.

    xx
