hi new here, I have been diagnosed with prostrate cancer 27/12/18. I've had bone and body scans 07/01/19 bone scan shows a possible tumour although my consultant is not 100% sure. I was all for going for the removal operation but that doesn't appear to be an option anymore. I have been put on hormone therapy.

    Hello Highley_likely

I too was diagnosed in 2017 with Prostate Cancer that had spread to my ribs, spine and hips. with a PSA of 259 I began chemotherapy in Jan 2018 , had 7 sessions and ongoing hormone therapy too.

Now 12 months later, my cancer is in check, not curable, but the HT will hold it at bay and I do not have to see my Oncologist until July and the HT injections have also been put back from 3 monthly to every 6 months.

So try not to worry yourself too much. There`s plenty of help and information out there and if you have any questions, then you can always ask on this forum and someone will always respond, just like they did for me during my treatment.

    I wish you well

PS Do you know what your PSA was?

    Hi MarlowRob.

i was diagnosed End of May with advanced prostrate cancer ,I started on Casodex 150 mg ,and Steroids.25,five days later I was started on Firmagon injections ,on diagnosis my  PSA was 122.two and a half months later in August saw consultant,he took me off the casodex and steroid, but to keep on with Firmagon, and said he would see me in six months .my PSA in August was 1.9,I had a PSA blood las Friday and will see the consultant Feb 4th ,By that time I will have had ten injections including two on the same day.

i don’t know what comes next with treatment flying to Barbados on 7th feb for a cruise, more for my wife than me,she along with my kids have been an absolute rock.

in august I asked my consultant if I could long haul fly ,he said he could see no reason why I shouldn’t,but that was then ,this is now.hope everything goes smoothly in Feb.

    regards Dave.

    Hi Dave

PSA at 1.9 sounds very good. I hope you enjoy your cruise to Barbados (who wouldn`t !). I`m hoping to take my wife on holiday in May, as she`s really been through the mill this past year, as you can imagine and she deserves a break, more than me really.

Just have to sort out holiday insurance beforehand which is a bit of a minefield once you`ve been diagnosed with cancer.

Best of luck when you see the consultant Feb 4th, I`m sure all will be well.

    Regards

    Rob

Thanks MarlowRob that's quite reassuring . My consultant was not 100% sure and has asked for a second opinion. My PSA was 7.5 in March 18, and 11.5 in October 18. Hasn't even doubled yet. I was told in December after the biopsy that the cancer was unlikely to have spread, I had Nuclear bone scan and CT scan early Jan 19 mid January I was told that there was a suspicious ( suspect tumour) highlighted area in my pelvis. I have been put on Bicalutamide 150mg hormone therapy for the last six days no terrible side effects as yet just a little bit sleepy.

    Hello again

I`m sure you`ll have a lovely time. One question, who did you have your holiday insurance with?

    Regards
