    Hi Diane10

I must b v lucky with my medical practice as I never have any bother getting an appointment. Soon after diagnosis the surgery sent me a letter 2 inform me I would b a "fast track" patient given my condition. I always get an appt.on the day I phone if I think my symptoms merit it. And in the last 4 weeks I've bn admitted 2 hospital twice following a trip 2 c them. Do your practice not have something like that in place? Or.do u have a specialist nurse who can arrange a prescription 4 u?

When I've had oral thrush I've had it treated with Daktarin Oral Gel and Nystatin liquid. But don't take my word 4 it as the medics might want 2 check u over at the same time.

It really does suck all these additional side.effects.that take a shine 2 us.

    Hope u get sorted soon

  • Hi Diane and welcome to the group! Like WB I also get an appointment the day I phone and ask for one. I know it is on my notes that I'm on palliative care and I get fast tracked appointments. You really shouldn't have any bother getting checked over. My advice would be to phone your surgery first thing Monday morning and say you "need to be seen today"! In our practise we also have a Nurse Practitioner who is terrific, does your surgery have one? Self diagnoses is not a good thing! Please get someone to have a look so that you get it sorted quickly! Good luck!

  • Hi Diane

And another welcome from me, I have bone marrow cancer (MDS) and like Wee Blonde and Annette I also would get an appointment on the same day (depending what time I ring of course) with either a doctor or specialist nurse. If the nurse thinks I need to see the doctor then I may have to wait for half an hour.

I can't unfortunately help with the thrush, I've never had it but if I were you I'd ring the surgery early and explain to the receptionist that you have/had cancer and you'd like to see a doctor asap. When you get an appointment with the doctor, speak to the doctor and thank them for seeing you so quickly and ask about getting to see a doctor on the day, considering you have/had cancer.

Good luck with the throat, let's hope that it's not serious and you can get it treated soon.

Just come back from walk in center and they have done swabs and gave me high dose of penecilin to rule out streps I got to go doctors on Wednesday for results. Just hope it only that and not cancer x

  • Hi Diane, I'm so glad you've been seen already and got some antibiotics! Also it's not too long to wait until Wednesday to see your doctor for the results and continued antibiotics if that's what's needed! As Tvman said, while you are there, it would be worth while telling him how anxious you were that made you go to the walk in centre. Most GP's understand that when you have cancer, the simplest of symptoms can make you worry, so it's best to get seen sooner rather than later and will arrange an early appointment for you.

Good luck, I hope it's something simple that the penicillin will sort out. Please keep us posted!

Aww thank you. Throats more swelled today and temperature keep going high so that's a good sign it's strep infection and not cancer. Going to register at a different doctors as the doctor they keep putting me with hasn't got a clue xx

  • Hi Diane

I think that may be a good idea.

Good luck with that one and I hope you get the throat sorted.
