Newbie - vulval cancer spread to pelvis. Anyone had SCC metastasis?

Hi all,

I've been told this week that my vulval cancer has spread to my pelvis and there are suspicious nodes on my lungs.

I was diagnosed in June with HPV related squamous cell carcinoma, operated on in July where the biopsy showed a grade 2/3 tumour and positive lymph node. During treatment planning the original tumour grew back to a 3cm lump.

Radiotherapy started with a chemo sensitiser in September but was halted this week after 5 weeks when my scan showed the new spread. Its incredibly fast growing although it looks like it has responded well to treatment so far. Unfortunately the new areas weren't covered by the radiotherapy as they hadn't shown on my August PET scan.

I will start 6 sessions of chemo in the next week or so.

I'm trying to get my head around it and, although my situation is very rare, wondering if anyone else has any experience with SCC becoming metastatic? I'm 52.

  • Hi Midlandsmama, welcome to the group nobody wants yo be in, but once your here you find so many friendly people giving support and understanding, we've been there and you can say anything rant and rave. Some things are easier to say here cos you don't want to upset loved one's.  Hang in there, take care. X

  • Thank so much. Yes none of us choose this but what a lovely welcome xx

  • Hi

Sorry I am an incurable advanced metastatic prostate cancer case myself with mets in pelvic and abdominal lymph nodes, so can't offer specific comment.

I just wanted to say welcome to the forum as well, and to mention that you can see our stories by clicking on our names or roundels (that is if you haven't already found out!)

I notice you will be starting chemo soon, and I wish you well with that, again please come back to us if you have queries about it - there are plenty who have been through it (I finished mine in May this year).  And also have a look through the other fora on here as there may well be one general/specific to your diagnosis, although you are more than welcome here!!  I am on several groups across the site and find them all interesting.

Best wishes for the next stage..

    Stay positive, be strong
