Curative?!

Hello all

I know I’m still recovering from my surgery of last Monday, but is there more than one meaning for the word curative? Sounds stupid I know! I finally received the results from my MRI and it says “following neo-adjuvant chemo completion, consider for curative liver resection”. How can my oncologist tell me I’m incurable if I’m not? So confused.

  • Hi Jools, I'm sorry to hear your oncologist isn't giving you answers. You know we are all entitled to a second opinion. If you don't feel comfortable with your oncologist you can change to someone else. This is your life you are talking about, it's time for you to take control. Good luck!

  • Hi Jools,

I just looked up curative on the internet.  It states " the terms are also used for treatments that delay disease progression even when a cure is not possible ".

I hope this clarifies things a bit for you.  xx

  • Thanks Cindy that is helpful. It’s funny how I go from thinking I’m a relatively intelligent person, to a bit of a numpty, when it comes to understanding what my oncologist says!

  • Thanks for your help again Annette. I’m not sure how I’d go about getting a second opinion, as we only have one in my area. I asked on 3 separate occasions about any gene mutations. During my last appointment, last week, she finally said oh it’s KRAS. No further explanation. I’ve looked into it on the usual websites, but am still not 100% sure I understand the effect it will have on my future. I now won’t see her until February.
