Art for art's sake

I was wondering if anyone feels they might benefit from being part of an art group specifically for those here. I'm an artist, though I have to admit to you that I've produced absolutely nothing for ages due to being ill and in hospital, not having anywhere to exhibit for aeons and generally being extremely knackered out most of the time. But then I started thinking maybe I could do something positive about it. I've worked within what's called the 'Arts in Health' sphere and done a lot with things like colour therapy. I'd also like to say that you don't have to be rich to make art. I've done a whole exhibition made from recycled materials. It's all about taking yourself to another place for a while and having a bit of messy fun. No judgemental rubbish or anything like that. And if you don't think you're able to draw anything that looks remotely like what it's supposed to look like, well, that doesn't matter either. I think that maybe for starters you might like to message me if you are interested and then I'll try and work out a little programme. Just for us. Let me know what you think. Rainy X

  • Time for more angels I think. Who likes these? Two very striking contemporary scuptures. Rainie x

A fantastic sculpture in wire by Richard Stainthorpe

One of the 'Houston Angels' in that city.

Let them hover over Ruth, little-fi and Lily for a week or so dispensing a bit of care and protection.

  • Can i also request they hover over yourself  plus anyone else in physical or emotional turmoil that might also benefit

  • I second that Youngman. Big hugs to all of you.  Rainie x

Another of the wonderful Houston angels

'The Blue Angel of Acceptance & Hospitality' in Verona, Italy

Glad you liked the angel images. There are some really beautiful contemporary angels to be seen in many cities nowadays and they are very different from the largely static looking marble statues that were seen in the past which were of course reflective of the times in which they were made. The Houston castings must have cost a small fortune to make, but they are amazing and have become famous landmakrks in the city.  Take care everybody. Rainie x

  • What a lovely thing to say Norberry, thank you. xx

  • I'm going to put up one more angel and it's by the contemporary US artist Andy Lakey. I first heard about him years ago, when he was relatively unknown. In fact, he was one of the artists I chose to write about for my degree dissertation. His story was interesting. You can read about it on Wikipedia if you want. Essentially, following a near-death incident, he resolved to paint 2000 angels by the year 2000. And he succeeded. He sadly died in 2012 as a result of exposure to the toxins in the paints he worked with. But his angels saved him in many ways.

I'm going to be doing an art couse for the coming three weeks. If I have any energy left to pop onto the forum I will, but if I'm absent a bit you will know the reason why: knackeredness. Meantime, I wish all of you good times and contentment.  Rainie x
