2nd January. I was trying to keep my spirits up this morning by assessing what is looking good in my garden. I have variegated golden and green shrubs which always look sunny even when its dull. Some red cornus stems though they need some light to bring out the colour.
Several plants are still holding their coloured autumn leaves. A container has two very lush clumps of diascia foliage. Cant believe it has survived the frosts.
Primroses are in flower in a few places and the winter heathers are beginning to colour up. Outside my front door is a variegated holly with lots of berries, surprised the birds haven't taken those.
But no blue sky - there was a glimpse earlier but it's gone now. I have two nice winter gardens near me at Mottisfont and Hilliers Arboretum which have influenced my choice of plants over the years. Used to be favourite visits to cheer me up this time of year but both seem too daunting to attempt now.

Hi
You're right, she's beautiful, such vibrant colours. Good luck with the street competition, I think that's great community spirit.
Hope you get out of hospital later today, but more importantly I hope you are feeling much better.

Hi Flippen Popgate
Many thanks for your concern, it's certainly difficult for me to achieve the construction because I have to stop every few minutes to let my pain dissipate. I probably saw the Gardeners World programme but the old memory isn't working so well. I have 3 or 4 books on pallet projects but the design is ours. The back and the seat aren't together, I have fixed the back to the wall behind so it's more stable.
Take care Flippen and stay safe

Good morning tvman I see you are also awake at this time (2.25) That's a great idea, fixing the back to the wall, that means you could do several backs of seats, fix them onto various walls or even sheds, then you would be able to move the bench part to wherever you wanted to sit!
Does that make sense, or am I just babbling at this time in the morning!! Hope you are doing alright! I'm off to do my jigsaws, then read for a bit! Take Care my friend!
Love Annette x
Hi Millie
Thank you Millie, the creative one of the two of us is Mrs Tvman, I supply the diy know how.
The most popular gardening magazine is Gardeners World which is is the same name as the main gardening TV programme but I don't know whether it's the most popular because there are a couple of other gardening programmes. I don't think the magazine would publish my seat. I had a letter published in it about 3 years ago. I have an idea to send it letter in with before and after pictures of my veg plot to show what a disabled person can achieve and I might include my garden seat.
You don't need to apologise for a little lateness when you're undergoing chemo. How are you Millie following your chemo, I sincerely hope that it didn't take too much out of you.
Take care Millie and stay safe.

Hi tvman
Thank you. I’m hoping to go home today. I need to see my oncologist to discuss the scan. I spoke to her junior today who said it was mixed. My liver tumours are growing but the other soft tissue tumours are stable. The mri shows that the spine tumour - the only one currently causing problems - has grown from 10mm in April to 50 mm now. How can something so tiny be such a problem?
I also need to see the pain management team to hear about a nerve block. I’m optimistic this will help.
I love your palette bench. So cool. It’s such a shame you hsvr to keep stopping for the pain but at least you don’t let the pain stop you. I’m now in a similar position with pain. If I get home tomorrow I’m going to be very limited in what I can do because the slightest movement causes me pain that stops me in my tracks. Your tales of walking Conan on your mobility scooter have inspired me. I am going to investigate getting myself one.
I hope we all get some sleep
xx
Hi Daloni
I wouldn't say that 50mm is small, I'm wincing when I think of your pain each time you move. On New Year's Eve 2017 I lay in bed and each slight move was sheer agony. I was told since that it was nerve spasms.
In hospital a couple of years ago when I had my last elbow operation I had a nerve block put in. I suffer these days from elbow nerve pain and I have been told recently that I'm pretty well near the very top of the list. I asked once that if I'm suffering so much from ulnar nerve pain why can't they just cut the nerve. Seems logical to me but I didn't get an answer. I'm sure going to ask the next time and I want an answer!
I'd recommend a mobility scooter Daloni. Mine is just a basic one that cost about £800. You can get bigger ones that cost 3 or 4 thousand pounds.but you can't get them on a bus!! It would be great for walking little Noodle.
Going to let you into a secret. I've found a way to get the pallets dismantled without splitting the timbers (that's not the secret) and Mrs Tvman and I are ⅔ way through constructing 3 compost bins. I'll post a photo when it's done. I'm now going to post a photo of Mrs Tvman's latest raspberry pick from the plot so if you get this post soon, you'll be one of the first to see them.
Hope you get home today Daloni with some pain relief.

Hi fellow gardeners and fellow non gardeners
Mrs Tvman has been picking her raspberries in my plot and she brought them in to show me straightaway. She's absolutely tickled pink and so proud. Some of them are going to go towards making jam. Today is a good day to get favours tee hee.
What do you think of her latest pick?
Tvman xx
I am so envious! I love raspberries and raspberry jam. My favourite is raspberry ice cream. I have a fabulous recipe that doesn’t freeze solid. It’s technically a parfait made with an Italian meringue (where’s Lass when you need her?) and it’s peerless
Hope they can help your pain I know how desperate I was when I had back pain.
good luck with getting home today.
to everyone,
after a very bad few weeks I am now so much better the palliative care team have sorted my pain with zomorph tablets and I am back eating and walking and feeling almost normal again.
we may even be able to go on our holiday to Kefalonia with all the family in September
good news for once for me xx
