Hi Everyone,
I hope that it is convenient for most of you as I have arranged the meet up for Saturday April 6th starting at 12 noon at The Windmill in York where we had our last meet up. As with previous meet ups if people can indicate their interest on this thread that would be great.
If people want to spread the word onto the other groups that they are members of I would be grateful if they could ask if people could express their interest via this thread. I will ask those attending to send me friend requests so I can send any info and contact numbers to them directly nearer the time. I have made a reservation but the venue has asked me to call them shortly before the date to clarify how many people we are expecting to attend.
Although previous meetings have been booked from 12 to 2pm they have continued long beyond this as people got talking to each other and enjoyed the company. Friends and family have been made welcome previously but please make sure they are aware that the common factor in those attending is cancer and it is likely to be a significant topic of conversation. Also last time one or two people were staying over on their own on the Friday night beforehand and we arranged for people to meet up (if they wanted to) so that they weren't wandering the city on their own.
The venue is a public house called the Windmill on Blossom Street less than 1/4 of a mile from York Railway station. On the map attached it is the junction above where it says YORK in bold print. The venue has a website ( Windmill Inn ) and serves food and real ales as well as all the usual beverages. It has level access for anyone in a wheelchair although the main entrance is over a few cobbles. It is on a junction opposite Micklegate Bar (pictured below) which is one of the entrances through the city walls. It has a Premier Inn hotel on one side of it and a taxi firm (Fleetways) on the other. It is about 100 yards from a York City Council run car park on Nunnery Lane, Council run car parks in York are free to disabled badge holders without time limit and not restricted to disabled parking bays.
To walk from the railway station leave via the main exit and the city walls are in front of you. Stay on the same side of the road and walk over a bridge and up a slight hill and the venue is the white building on your right on the junction of Queen Street and Blossom Street.
I hope to see lots of you there. Gragon xx
Hi all
Love the photos and I am afraid that I have to echo Annette's words in saying "You all look so well!". I hope you had a wonderful day, getting to know one another.
I wonder could someone add names to the faces? The only one I can guess to a good degree is the guy with the beard, I hazard a good guess that is Gragon lol. If it's not, I do apologise, ladies!
All the best to you, you have probably talked yourselves hoarse

Gragon, you are a wonderful host, thank you again. We had a great afternoon, it was lovely to meet everyone, I'm looking forward to the next one already! Having trouble uploading my photos, especially the one with the incredible moving arm....we were having a toast to everyone who couldn't be there at the time, so rest assured, you were missed. Will get my son on the case at a more respectable hour.
Hope to see you all again before too long xx
Hi All,
I had a great time yesterday and it was lovely to meet everyone, a couple of old friends and several new ones. As suspected it lasted well beyond the two hours and I think it was nearly four and a half hours later that the last of us left. I got home very tired and aching and ended up having quite an early night but it was more than worth it. I wasn't sure how many glasses I had to raise for people not able to attend so had quite a few just to be sure I didn't miss anyone out.
In the first photo printed by Lass we are from left to right, Flowerlady, Lass, Tinalay, Alive, skaila, Hop4best, and Gragon. If you compare the pictures to the last meet up I can reassure you that I have moved in between the two meet ups.
We were talking about other potential meet ups and were discussing the possibility of another London one in the near future.
anndanv / Annette, If you know anyone in Scotland who might be able to organise a get together several of us were saying that are able and willing to travel the distance with the usual proviso's of health, medical appointments and previous commitments. Edinburgh is probably easier for most of us but so long as it is not too far out of the way then I'm sure we can work out how to get there.
If anyone wants to talk about what I did to arrange the York meet ups I am more than happy to discuss it with them. All you really need is a suitable venue and people to attend.
Thanks to everyone who attended and hope that more of you can make it next time.

Hi all, well I have had an interesting journey home today from York. The train went all around the houses due to network rails line works, but that’s not all had a half hour stay in Leeds because another train over shot the platform blocking the points and we had to wait. A few choice words were being used on the platform by rail staff!!
I had upgraded to first class when I found I couldn’t book a seat any other way and boy was I glad. Train was heavily overloaded, spilling over into people standing down the aisle in first class as well as sitting in the toilets as there was just not enough room.
Arrived at my destination to find the car park full of police, police cars and an ambulance. Half the car park cordoned off with police tape including the taxi area. Major incident I am told. Read on line that a car has hit a pedestrian!!! Pedestrian doesn’t have life threatening injuries.I think it was a bit over the top and thought it was a murder at least. One can only suppose it was very quiet here on the crime front or the incident has been played down until more facts are known!
Well my little dog has just been bought home. Apparently the person who looks after him hadn’t picked the other dogs dishes up quickly enough on Friday and Jimmy had eaten all his food and theirs and had a bit of an upset tummy afterwards. He is such a little piggy and is now being renamed Billy Bunter!!
love and hugs

Hi Lass, thanks, rather tired though so doing a nice simple cheese and potatoe pie for tea and shall have an early night. I was early to bed last night and slept like a log but woke up at 5.30 this morning!! It was so good to meet you yesterday and am already looking forward to the next meet up.

Yeh, soon as I got home I collapsed into my recliner and got my feet up. After a while, I could then get my shoes off, as everything from the knee down had swollen. Lol. Had a nap, watched some TV, started falling asleep again so went off to bed before 11 - which is unheard of for me.
So I was really worried I'd be up at god knows when too. But apparently I really needed the sleep as I didn't wake until gone 7!
Tonight I'm waiting for fish and chips, diet be damned. If you look at the baking thread you'll see my day today, as well as the only thing I've eaten so far. So I think I both need and deserve a chippy tonight! Lol
And yes, lovely to meet you too. Looking forward to doing it again sometime!

I have no medical training, everything I post is an opinion or educated guess. It is not medical advice.
Hi Gaynor, it’s really simple just mashed potato mixed with grated cheese, add an onion if you feel like it, sprinkle cheese on top and put under grill till cheese is bubbling. If you use left over cold mashed potato to make it just put in the oven till it’s heated through. It’s good on its own or with baked beans or tinned tomatoes. It’s what I go to for really easy, cheap comfort food. I know in some parts of the UK they line a dish with short crust pastry first and some people just call it cheesy mash. I couldn’t tell you how much cheese to add, just add enough so it tastes good to you and enjoy.
