Hello, my name is Liam. I came to the forums to ask for advice. I am sorry in advance, some of the details may seem screemish.
My mum suffered a perforated bowel 5 years ago, and has an irreversible colostomy as a result. This year, she has had multiple prolapes of the bowel, and multiple trips to A and E.
Typically on these occasions, a surgeon manages to safely fit the bowel back in place and we go home. However, yesterday at A and E, the surgeon tried his best and was unable to fit the bowel back in. They apologized, and said it was out of their hands.
They also have said they cannot operate anymore on her bowel, because she is unfit for surgery. She is 67 years old, and they fear she will not survive an operation.
The hospital provided her with 4 extra large Colostomy Bags to fit the stoma, but the bowel bleeds constantly into the bags. She does occasionally pass stool, so at least her bowel is "working" just it's a real worry for her not being able to fit it back in. It hangs out of her belly constantly, and only the bag obscures it.
Home remedies like Golden Syrup do not help to shrink her bowel in her case.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
Kind Regards
Liam
