Spirituality can take many forms. For some people, it’s closely linked to a religion or being part of a faith community. For others, it might be more personal, like finding meaning through nature, mindfulness, or moments of quiet reflection.

We’ve shared a new blog that explores how faith and spirituality can support people through a cancer experience. We’d love to hear from you. Has your faith, spiritual practice or beliefs helped you in any way during or after cancer?

Feel free to share your thoughts below and join the conversation.

  • I went to Church Yesterday. For the first time in 39 Years I wanted to know why it felt like the Lord had foresaken us. My Dad was diagnosed with Luekaemia last week and has never hurt anybody!! Its the first time my faith has been tested.

  • Hi  and well done navigating across to our little corner of the community.…… so did you get an answer to your question……. “why it felt like the Lord had forsaken us?”

  • My Reverend says its normal at times in life to feel these things about God Turning on you. He tried to explain that if pain didnt exist then would we ever feel love.

  • The first thing to get…… as I explained in your post in the ALL group…… this is just not God’s fault……. like me back in 1999…. your dad has been unlucky….. and as I explained the progression of cancers has been a long time in the making……. with a wide range of reasons fir this over their life time generations.

But with 1 in 2 coming in contact with cancer over their life time we should not be surprised when it comes nocking on our doors…….. as a Christian it’s all about how we approach it and the trust we put in our Heavenly Father and the God given skips of our medical professionals and the amazing treatments out there.

I encourage you to get out the Christian’s handbook (The Bible) and see the encouragement there is there as well as pray.

Isaiah 41:10 says……"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand".

This verse assures you that God is present, providing strength and unwavering support during times of fear.
Have a look at Psalm 41:3…… This verse offers comfort by highlighting God's role as a healer and restorer.
John 14:27 says…. "I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid".
This promise from Jesus offers profound peace that goes beyond what the world can provide, helping to calm your fears and anxiety.
Have a look at Psalm 23:4…. This great scripture speaks of God's comforting presence, even in the "valley of the shadow of death," providing protection and courage.
During our hard times my wife, our 2 daughters, son in laws and 4 granddaughters never lost sight of the power of God in these hard times…..
Ephesians 6:11 says……. "Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes".
This verse encourages us to find spiritual defence and courage in God, acknowledging that cancer can be a terrifying struggle.

But these verses provide a foundation for trust and hope, affirming that God is with you, your dad and the family and offers comfort, healing, and strength throughout the cancer journey ((hugs))

  • As always Mike I appreciate your posts. I just want God to see we are Good People. I just want him to hear me, hear my call. I want him to deliver my Dad to full health. I have never asked much of him but I need him now.

  • Your heart felt plea above has not landed on deaf ears…… God hears you….. and his will, will be done.

You need to put your full faith and trust in the Father and continually look for the positives in this journey….. even during the hard times (been there a good number of times) you don’t waver from trusting God.

Over my 130 night in various hospitals over my main 2 years treatment the sheets of paper below were somewhere near me….. on my bedside table, on the wall….. for all to see.

This was produced by my wife and was a combined faith statement that regardless how challenging things could get God was  in control in our lives.

You do need to find someone in your Church Fellowship who you can sit with, have a coffee and chat honestly and openly…….. you can’t navigate this on your own.
