Hi there,

I know we should eat fresh fruit and veg, wholemeal foods etc and have a balanced diet but I’m interested in drilling further  into what may help abd something more specific. I am taking Cabozantinib 40mg daily for my cancer (started in kidney and now back in area of kidney and liver). Any websites you would recommend?

  • Dear Seabreeze,

Thank you for getting in touch and welcome to our online community, I hope you find it supportive. My name is Jo and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line. I can appreciate that you are keen to find out more about good nutrition while on treatment for kidney cancer.

There is still insufficient medical evidence to make exact recommendations about which foods are beneficial to eat, or which to avoid following a cancer diagnosis. Cancer Research UK has useful information on alternative cancer diets and the lack of research-based evidence to support them.

In general, cancer experts and Macmillan advocate following a healthy balanced diet. Here is some further information about diet and cancer and a link to our booklet Healthy Eating and Cancer.

Before making changes to your diet, it might be a good idea to talk to a dietitian, your GP, or specialist nurse. This may be especially useful you have any special dietary requirements or medical needs. We also have information about Eating problems and Cancer that you might find helpful.

I hope this information is helpful but if you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

    Best wishes,

    Jo, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
