  • Hi

Welcome to the Online Community here at Macmillan. I hope you find it a helpful place to access support and ask questions. My name is Paula and I am one of the information nurses. I am glad that you reached out to us today for some further information and support.

Making decisions about whether to have breast reconstruction or not can be difficult and understandably you have questions around this. Every person in the same situation as you must make a choice that’s right for them. Your choice will be individual to you. It’s difficult to say how each person may feel following a reconstruction as each person may feel differently.

I can see that you are already a member of our Breast Care Forum, so you may be able to talk to someone who has been through a similar experience to you in the forum if you haven’t already done that. Also Breast Cancer Now offer one to one peer support which you might find helpful and you can access the information on this here

Breast reconstruction is major surgery, and you may have further questions about this, so, you may find it helpful to talk things through with your breast care nurse. The nurse can answer any questions and talk about any worries you may have, and they can also liaise with the consultant if this is needed for you.

I hope you find this information helpful. You can also always call one of our nurses directly if you want to talk over your concerns or require any further support.

    Take care
