I had this procedure on the 22nd june and am now at home but I am in considerable pain. The area is very hard and swollen.is this normal? It does seem to be getting worse not better. The groin area is just really sore the dressing is still in place when should this be removed and do I need a district nurse to do this. Sorry to ask so many questions but I was sent home with little or no information.

  • Hi Calgary Flame

Thanks for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support and welcome to the online community.

I’m sorry to read that you are having ongoing symptoms that are causing you concerns.

Unfortunately, it is difficult for nurses on this platform to say what exactly is causing this issue.

However, any new, worsening, or ongoing symptoms should always be reviewed to determine the cause. We would encourage you to make an appointment with your GP or hospital team today for further review.

I see from your profile you have joined our Vulva group. Support from others going through similar experiences can make such a difference to you at this difficult time.

Maggie’s also offer some emotional advice and online courses that can help anyone affected with cancer.

We are offering free one-on-one counselling with a qualified Bupa therapist, who has been trained in supporting people living with cancer. Do you think this is something you would be interested in? If so, then please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

If you’d like to talk things through a little more, please don’t hesitate to contact our nurses on the support line. We are always happy to take the time to talk over any worries or concerns you are having.

    Best wishes,

    Annemarie (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
