  • Dear Chris111,

I’m sorry to hear that you had to argue with your GP in order for you to be referred to the hospital. I hope the GP is helping you manage your symptoms at the moment.

A colonoscopy will allow the doctors to be able to view the inner lining of your bowel. If there are any abnormalities, for example a growth, they would be able to see this. If they have identified an abnormality, they would then attempt to take biopsies. This will allow them to find out of it is cancer or not. The doctor or nurse carrying your the colonoscopy may talk to you after the procedure or they may discharge you home with a letter with their immediate findings.

It can take a few weeks for the biopsy results to come back.

It can sometimes help to talk about how you are feeling. Our nurses are available 7 days a week on the support line or webchat. They will be able to explain what to expect from the procedure should you want to talk this through.

I hope all goes well with the colonoscopy.

    Best wishes,

    Kat,
