Have been diagnosed with cervical cancer stage 3 aggressive treatment being offered radiotherapy and chemotherapy but I'm.not sure I want it, absolutely petrified  of the treatment and being ill  I'm just on pain meds at minute

If I refuse all treatment what happens next and am I doing the right thing my heads in a total mess can't stop crying

  • Hi Candy22

Thanks for getting in touch with your questions. I can see one of my colleagues answered another question that you posted recommending that you get back in touch with your team to talk through your diagnosis and how you are feeling.

It’s no wonder you feel the way you do, you’ve had a cancer diagnosis which is devastating then had a difficult conversation about how to treat your cancer, feeling a total mess and crying is what most people would be doing in this situation. What’s important is that you have support and help when you feel like this. You don’t say if you have any family/friends around you that you can talk to, many people find that helpful when they are first diagnosed. Jo’s trust are also another great resource for information and support.

It’s natural to fear treatment, it’s side effects and what the future may hold for you, but you do have to let someone know how you are feeling. Please speak to your Clinical Nurse Specialist or Oncologist about how you are feeling and that you are considering not having any treatment. They can talk things through with you again and organise further support if needed through the hospital. If you decide not to have any treatment or to stop treatment your hospital team will talk through what would happen next with your care.

As my colleague said it often helps if you can talk things through in more detail. If you feel up to it then please do give us a call on the support line.

    Best wishes,
