My partner has been diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer from the 14/04 he will be taking apalutamide.

The question he/we have is …. Is the financial help for cancer patients…. Means Tested?

Thank you

Neesha

Thank you for your message. Sorry to hear about your partner’s diagnosis but I hope that he does well on the proposed treatment.

As far as financial help is concerned, were you thinking of the help available from the state, or possibly the Macmillan grant? Many state benefits are definitely means tested, although there are some which aren’t. There is some further information about this here on our website.

If you’d like to check if there’s any entitlement, you could speak to one of our benefits advisers. Unfortunately, they don’t currently have a presence on Ask an Expert but you can contact the team on 0808 808 0000, then select Option 1, Option 2, finally Option 2. You might prefer to speak to them on webchat instead – select ‘Welfare Benefits and Grants’ when you’re asked to pick a topic.

The Macmillan grant is also means tested and you can find further information on this here. Again, our benefits advisers can check any entitlement to the grant as well as state benefits so do consider giving them a call.

The Financial Guides are here to support with questions on matters like claiming on an insurance policy, paying your mortgage, or maybe accessing a pension for example. Please let us know if you’d appreciate a chat about any of these areas or about any other personal finance matters, either by phoning, using webchat or by replying here.

    Take care.
