Are you able to advise on Travel insurance for someone who has CLL which was diagnosed in 2014.  Trial treatment began in November 2019 and is responding well.  Patient is now in remission yet the travel insurance questions do not give an option to express that.

Thank you

  • Hello

Thank you for your message. I’m glad that the patient is now able to consider taking a holiday and hope the following information will help.

Because we are a guidance service, we’re unable to advise you which insurance companies to try but can point you in the right direction.

Firstly, it’s true to say that  if you’re looking to get travel insurance online, it is likely that you won’t be able to explain what the current situation is and therefore may get declined, or have an exclusion applied. We’d always suggest actually speaking to the insurer and maybe even ask to speak to the underwriter or decision maker.

To find suitable cover, take a look at the travel insurance blog on this Online Community here to see where other cancer patients are finding their cover. Or there is also a Travel Insurance directory on the MoneyHelper website which you can access here.

There are also other considerations such as making sure you have a valid European Health Insurance card, or have now arranged a Global Health Insurance card. You can get more information about this on the Government website (gov.uk).

If you’d like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to call us on the Support Line – 0808 808 0000, Option 1, then 2, then 1 again to get through to the Financial Guides. Or of course, you can continue the conversation here or on webchat.

Good luck in finding suitable cover and enjoy your holiday when you go.

    Kind regards.
