dont be scared of the WLE - just remember its been diagnosed and they are doing something about it...it will heal and everything will go back to normal... its just as my consultant says... it will look as though a shark has bitten you...and thats going to be my line if anyone asks!! ah ah ahah

    take care

My surgeon called mine a shark bite too - but didn't tell me beforehand - so it was somewhat of an awful shock to me when I saw my leg.

Peter do you think you could update us periodically, please,  with more pictures on how the "shark bite" is healing.

I am sure there are others who will be interested too.

By the way the swelling in your foot will go down when you can exercise more - and another question have they given you some crutches?

Oh and I have just thought of something else Peter, - so you can shower there is a special leg cover you can purchase - a bit like a big plastic bag with a rubber flange on the top, - you can buy them in all sizes - I purchased mine over the internet.  But you might already have done this.

    hi lynn

i will take photos of the wound everytime i have it redressed.

i was not given crutches and walking is difficult but i know it will get better

do you have the website address for thos leg bags for the shower? i dont have any yet... the wound needs to be kept as dry as possible and the graft doner site definately as dry as possible.

the shark bite is going to be a great dinner party story..!!1 aha hahah

    thanks for the message

Hi Peter - I can't find the receipt for the one I purchased but have found this company which have an identical cover,

Activity Mobile - 178 Belasis Avenue, Billingham, Cleveland, TS23 1EY

    Tel: 01642 805050

It may be best to phone them and have a tape measure ready, as you will need measurements of leg length/thigh etc.

I found this type of cover to be excellent and waterproof, - as like you I was not allowed to let the dressing/wound become wet, - the graft site was ok once it had scabbed and then the scabs fall off and you have a healed surface.  It was a chiropodist who told me about them not the hospital, about three weeks after surgery.  These are the sort of things that the hospital support nurse should advise you about.

Have they talked about "granulation", - this is when the tissue starts the healing process, - and will be happening now.

    Best wishes

    Lynn xx
