The big C . on Channel 4.

Less than one minute read time.

Has anyone found anything remotely funny in this latest tasteless offering from the States ?.  If my dear wife , who died from recurrence of her breast cancer in October were to see it we would be buying a new TV set but the poker would still be O.K. .  It bears no resemblance to any of our real life experience   supposed to be a comedy and giving no indication at all as to what really happens.  its only redeeming feature is that it is not screened until 23.00 .  Explains a lot as to why much of the world hates the Americans I think if this is what they see as entertainment .

If anyone can see any of their own situation in this I would like to know but not sure what I will make of their mental condition .

I find it downright offensive to those of us battling or having battled with this awful disease which takes away so cruelly so many of our loved ones .

Hi Angie T , you be as blunt as you like it won't offend me but I was looking to find out if this  was what having melanoma was like, as I say my experience was with breast cancer and recurrence over 10 years .  It is very difficult not to feel  is it going to be my turn next  ?.  We have to say what we think and feel on here as an outlet , and we have all felt the most powerful emotions .

    Dear Wiljon

I am sorry you found this programme to be so upsetting and distatesful.

My wife has had cancer and I have cared for her during and throughout it and as she continues her recovery and we record the show and watch it together.

Each of our cancer journeys are different and individual, everyone has different experiences and things they find sad or humourous about their journey. I find that your post is a little judgemental as just from your point of view, but am pleased others have shared kinship with the programme.

If it wasnt for humour being a huge part of my wifes treatment and recovery I think her journey would have been a lot harder and a lot longer when speaking with others I am sure they would feel the same. As this is individual to her.

To marsha and angiet, about bloody time that melanoma was highlighted as I agree not enough coverage of many other unknown cancers.

By watching all episodes to date you have seen the way she chooses to deal with it, and share it with only a neighbour as wants to protect those closest to her and understand some of what she is going through as we are all different.

The biggest thing it has shown not to do - yet some posters on here may feel the need to is the "pity me" attittude, but once past that stage you choose to deal with the cancer as you see fit, whether you want others to know, want to treat it, want to fight it or be light hearted and humourous or not...the ultimate issue here is we all die sooner, later through ill health, some suffer, some dont, some leave people behind, some dont. would you like the opportunity to know when and what of so that you can fit things in in time or not?

my partner found the biggest and most true comment in the show to be a poster in the self help group she visited stating "cancer is a gift" this is how she sees it as it has given her a new opportunity in life. not all people have this opportunity to this extent which we appreciate, as some peoples illness is terminal.

    xxxx
