Newbie

Less than one minute read time.

Hi,   I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Feb after visiting my GP with a lump that turned out to be a benign cyst. The " surprise" one was hiding and picked up on a precautionary mammogram. I consider myself very lucky!  My husband and I live abroad so we're trying to do all this in a foreign language. My care so far, though, has been fantastic. I had a lumpectomy in March and it's healed really well. I had my first of six chemo's on 7th April and the second is this Wed, 28th. I was disgustingly sick for four days but then I picked up and felt normal. I still think all this is happening to someone else!

Every time I needed information I came to this site( it's a highly rated site at my hospital) and so I found the community. Now I'm not overly emotional but the support shown here has moved me to tears pretty much every time I've looked. The understanding with humour and getting on with it attitude works for me so thank you all already~!

I'm off to shave my head now-bandanas at the ready..

Do you know I sent my message off into the ether and was too cowardly to look and see if anyone replied but here you are..you're real. Cool. Thank you Sarsfield, schoolking, Liz,Gillian & Ali.

Getting rid of my hair was a huge relief because I was plagued with hayfever too and the itching of pollen and stray hairs was too much.

Can I ask what anti sickness drugs people like? After the second chemo I really munched my metclopramide and ondansetron but I was still pretty rough for four or five days. If that's normal then ok but if I can improve my situation I'd like to try?

I'd also like to know a little bit more about Taxotere which I get for my second three chemos. The hospital say I need someone to come with me for that and it's scared me a little.

On a lighter note after discovering my head is normal with no unsightly bumps this weeks excitement has been the purchase of a black and white stripey " rasta" hat to keep me warm! Oh, the small things...

    Hi Whiskey,

you made ma laugh with your 'normal head' comment loads of family and friends have said I have a rather lovely little noggin!!! ha ha.

I'll let you know about the taxtoret sp? having three courses of Docetaxel starting 21st May, wasn't told to bring someone tho!!! but told it would take 3 hours or so because you have to wait and hour and a half for the chemo to be made up!!!!, so I know with my trusty copy of hello mag, bottle of water and chewing gum will gird my loins and push on.

Take care, talk soon  Alex x
