ooohhh social security

Less than one minute read time.

Havn't posted a blog for a while, since the new site actually, but smoke coming out of my ears, as I no longer get statutory sick pay, I have been receiving Employment Support Allowance until I return to work. WELL, went for a medical, the nurse practitioner asked various questions, putting answers on the computer. I have now received a letter stating that I am no longer getting my payments, due to the fact I can walk, talk, answer questions, stand, sit hear and see, they have made the decision I am fit for work, I explained about my mastectomy, now having to have my other breast removed then reconstruction surgery, the fact that I have breast cancer and have further surgery doesn't enter into it. After working full-time since leaving school (a lot of years ago) and paid all my contributions I can not get any benefits when I need them, I am soooo annoyed,

well, thats my rant for the day......

Hi Viv, my husband was stopped sick

pay,and he appealed, thy still refused

him, so he appealed again and as this

can take up to six months thy are now

paying him till the appeal comes up.

If you have to have treatment then send

copies to the ESA, dont give up, you

know your not swinging the lead as does

your GP. My hubby thank god doesn,t

have cancer but he is waiting for a hip

    replacement, cant get upstairs unless

he goes on his bottom, he is in constant

pain, but thy said because he can speak

and use his bowels, lol would you credit

that, like you he has paid his dues and

never been out of work, and his 63years

old, makes you sick doesn,t it.

Dont give up, appeal then thy will have

to pay you till it comes up.

    With Love Lucy Lee. xxx

Just read all of the comments and fills me with dread.   I got diagnosed with Breast cancer in Oct 09 and am coming to the end of my SSP so am facing what seems like a minefield to apply for ESA.

I have applied for DLA.  I live in Northern Ireland and they sent the confirmation letter to my mum's old address in Sunderland.   My mum has been dead 11 years.   Luckily the person living in the house was a neighbour who used to live across the road.  It doesn't fill me with hope.   I rang Macmilan today to check what was happening and apparently my Dr's notes which had been sent on 1st April the DLA said they had not received.

I am already panicking about the drop in salary without having all of this incompetence to deal with.

I have worked full-time for 23 years and like a lot of people feel I did not ask for this illness.   I like a lot of people have read in the papers about people claiming all sorts of benefits and agree many seem not to be suffering financially as many of those who have cancer.
