Just saying Hello

Less than one minute read time.
I am new, so new I have that "new car" scent :) I just want to say hi, I have looked around the site and I am thankful and blessed to have a sister that told me to come here. Diagnosed just a few weeks ago with stage 3 cancer, caught in screening process. Chemo (Folfox) to start on Jan 7th. Port to be installed tomorrow December 22. I live in a very isolated place, will have to be admitted to hospital to have treatments. Anyone that has experienced the same, advice greatly welcomed :) Merry Christmas!

    Hello Rachel,

It's a nuisance to have to wait till after Christmas for your chemo, but they can't be too worried or they would have started it sooner. So put your feet up and relax over the hols. It's a bit of a pain having to stay in hospital but it can't be helped. My advice to you is to spend the time between now and then collecting a nice little collection of delicious nibbles because (a) hospital food is shite and (b) even if it wasn't shite, you might not feel much like eating anyway.

Good luck with your treatment and welcome to this weird and wonderful site. It's full of nutters but most are harmless!

    Best wishes, Shelagh xx

    Hi Rachel

Welcome to our site. I'm sure you'll find plenty of support an friendship on here as I have done. At one of my lowest times the chat site

had me with tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks. I hadn't laughed so much in ages. It cheered me up no end.

Try and have an enjoyable Christmas before your treatment starts.

    Love

    Veggie

    xxxxxx

Doctors said they wanted to start me 6 weeks after surgery, but with the isolation and the holidays fast approaching, the local hospital couldn't accommodate me until the new year, not sure if thats a bad thing or not.  But I am getting married on the 3rd of January so I guess with chemo not happening it frees up my time to plan for Christmas and the wedding...thanks for posting :)

Hi, I am also new to this site and was myself diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer 5 weeks ago.  I have found this site very helpful to me in terms of what to expect.

I am starting chemo (folfox also) on December 29.  I had the port-a-cath inserted yesterday afternoon.

Today, I am very sore and swollen around the incision site and my left arm movements are somewhat limited.  Over the counter painkillers are helping with the discomfort however and I am having lots of rest.

Good luck with your procedure and stay positive.

    Cheers from Stacey
