,Borderline Changes

1 minute read time.

Hi all, not sure if Im putting this in the right place, but I have a question for all you ladies, thought it a bit too personal for chat.

I recently, had a routine smear test which they said they were 'unable' to report upon and asked me to have another one done. I have had another one done and this is now showing 'Borderline changes in the cervix cells' Iv now got to have another one and if this still shows changes I have to have a Colposcopy? (sp).

My question i 1. Anyone had it done and does it hurt?? (me's a wimp) and also do I need to be worrying here? I know they have said it doesnt necessarily mean cancer cells, but when I have a letter from the Cancer screening co-ordinator I feel a bit anxious?? My GP is already pushing me for a hysterectomy (due to other problems) Have an appointment at the Queen Elizabeth in Bham in May, Im worried that because of these abnormal results they may say I definately have to have a hysterectomy?

I know Im the biggest wimp in the world, and a worryer, but I have visions of me being reunited with my Ian sooner than expected?? Lol, only kidding....

Any advise would be welcome, thanks my friends, Julie xxx

agree that it is uncomfortable and embarrassing, the bloke doing it was lovely, so apologetic... I too had to have hysterectomy cos of bleeding whilst on arimidex, then they found shadows etc....  was very sceptical and upset at time

to have to have one, however very pleased now and like somone else said it gives peace of mind.

thanks for all your replies, you lovely people :) I think when cancer is in the forefront of your mind you go into overdrive. Im actually more worried about the procedure than the outcome. Iv also had a big weight loss, two and nearly three stone since losing Ian, Doc monitoring it now but she thinks it down to stress etc.

anyway, thanks again, Love and hugs, julie xxx

    Hi Julie,

I had a colposcopy years ago and it didn't hurt - I wasn't awake during the procedure and had no pain afterwards.  I do remember having a gauze bandage rolled up inside me until it healed.  It started to drip blood after a few days which I was told was normal.  The worst bit was not being able to have a bath until I had fully healed.  Mind you I go back to the Ark so things might have changed by now lol xx

    Hi Julie

This was me about a month ago so I know exactly how you feel and what you're going through!

Now, I am the biggest wimp in the whole wide world and I can assure you that a) the procedure itself does not hurt, it's just a little uncomfortable and b) it is highly unlikely that there will be anything seriously wrong.

I cannot praise my treatment enough.  We have such a good system here in the UK and they send you for a colposcopy even for the mildest of changes which I am sure will turn out to be nothing.

Yes, it is very scary when they send you leaflets with the Cancer Research logo on it and I wish they wouldn't do that!

All will be well, I'm sure :-)

    Hi Julie,

i haven't had a colposcopy but I know people who have and they have been fine. You know how scared I am about hospitals etc but I managed to have a hysterectomy about 18 years ago because of large fibroids. I insisted on keeping my ovaries as I was 44 but now i wish they had gone as my cancer has spread there. I never looked back after the hysterectomy i must say and I think now it is one less place to have cancer in.

I know how scary everything is when cancer is in the front of your mind but it probably isn't cancer and if it is you have caught it very very early which is great. Try not to worry, I know that is hard.

    Love and strength.

    Jen Xx
