This time last year…..

Gosh, where has the time gone? A year ago I had just finished the dreaded chemo and was psyching myself up for surgery. Now, a year on, between chemo fog and menopause brain (or perhaps just good old age forgetfulness) I can hardly remember the details. Actually, this blog has been invaluable for helping me to look back.

Lots of things have changed in the past 12 months. So my hair is growing back, still a bit too short and curly for my liking, but I should be grateful. I also have good energy levels, the “nuked boob” is now a minor discomfort rather than keeping me up all night, although on the down side, my motivation for daily exercise has waned somewhat and I am slowing popping back on the weight I'd managed to lose before this all started

And despite various Covid variants doing their best to stop us, the world is opening up again and it all feels a bit more, dare I say it, normal. I've been to 3 conferences for work in the last month, and somehow managed to avoid Covid, had no cancelled flights just a few delays and my luggage also made it with me - these days I'll take that as a result! I've also visited a charity in South Africa for the first time since joining their Trustee Board, fantastic to see the work they do.

As I reflect on the past year though, I realise I have changed. I was always a “glass half full” person, but now I am so much more relaxed about “stuff” especially at work and, do you know, it feels good! I will not let cancer define me, though I'll certainly take the learnings.
