3 days to go....

1 minute read time.

After a long period of Thyroid monitoring (5 years) the FNA has taken on the 26/11/10. This turned out to be positive for cancer.

I’m currently awaiting my surgery. This is in 3 days (1/03/11)

Having talked with the consultant at length, he has decided to do  a partial lobectomy. Then return me to surgery in two weeks to finalise a complete thyroidectomy.

Having a bit of an up and down time, you never really know what to expect till you are told 'it’s positive'. I’m trying to limit the people I tell as I would like to keep it as straight forward as I can. My wife and close family are aware, as is my employer . I'd like to keep it that way, and obviously, you all on here know.

I’m a bit worried as to having a 'positive' FNA then being told they would like to send a lobe off for analysis to Pathology , with a view to completion. Surely the FNA results would be enough? Oh well, to paraphrase a forum post I’m hoping the doctors know the right path and I can relax in the knowledge I’m getting the best care available.

I’m off to buy my hospital clothes today (what exactly do you wear? :) ) Waiting for the Gasman, then off to do the weekly shopping with the other half.

Pretty normal day really, just trying to make the most of it as the next month or so will be a bit of a minefield.

Having a good send off with mates on Saturday night. We are off to the Casino for a bit of fun and to celebrate a friends birthday. So I hope don’t send my BP through the roof! :D

Having said 'monitoring' they only process the lump at my request (they had promised to check every 6 months ) I ad to make appointments with the GP surgery for ultrasound appointments, lucky I did ,as when I talked to the  consultant (who assured me 'its very, very rare in males), I explained this ,and straight away I had an ultrasound guided FNA (only second FNA on the 5 year window )

This was the one :(

Will keep you all up on my progress, and hopefully leave a sign post for someone else looking for guidance in the future.
