UPDATE on our quest for a Mac Nurse

1 minute read time.

Thursday 2nd June 2011

Well, stamping my feet worked!  After being told that a Mac Nurse wasn't appropriate because John isn't at the end of life, I contacted the helpline and was advised to phone the doctor and insist that we be referred.

So, I did!  And I insisted that an appointment be made with the doctor or that we should have a telephone appointment TODAY!  Lo and behold, I was put straight through to the doctor and an appointment was made for this afternoon to see his OWN DOCTOR who John hasn't seen for weeks.

We've just come back and it looks like things are moving.  The doctor agreed that he should be referred and he prescribed slow release OxyContin tablets to help get on top of his pain.  He also said that he would write a letter straight away to the local MacMillan Hospital and they would contact us to go and see them where we would probably be assigned a Mac Nurse.  Hallelujah!

We're both feeling very relieved already and pleased that we will at last have someone on call for anything that's troubling us.

Thank you so much for all your support and advice.  What would we do without you?

I'm so pleased to hear that Madge.  I must admit I was surprised that you were told it was not appropriate for John to have a mac nurse as my mum was introduced to her clinical nurse specialist, like a mac nurse, Christine, 2 days after diagnosis.  I don't know what I would have done without her as I could ring with any concerns and she would get back to me very quickly.  I hope this will put your mind at rest.  Take care Caroline XX
