Buddies

Less than one minute read time.

During a discussion in chat this afternoon, the subject of ‘buddies’  came up – nothing to do with community champions, but the idea that every regular has a buddy that looks out for them, and if they go missing from chat/community for several days – they can raise the issue or even contact them and let the community know they are alright.

Whilst we obviously want to respect people’s privacy etc., lots of people in chat liked the idea, so I put it forward for consideration.

If either a patient – or a carer who’s loved one gets ill and they can’t come onto community /chat , a message is posted in a designated ‘group’.  And if sadly that person dies then again we are notified.

A couple of people have indicated that they have already put into either their will, or letters to executors that they are to inform Macmillan community somehow.

I think this needs talking through  including with Mac Admin

Brilliant idea of a buddie.  I think it is good for someone to check in especially if someone has been absent from the site.  We all need to know someone cares and sometimes in real life others just go on with life and don't check in while cancer patients and their families go along their difficult journey.  It is good to know someone is there looking out for you.  I agree with Paddyman - in the spirit of the community.
