after steroids

Less than one minute read time.

Does anyone know how long it takes for steroids to get out of your system? I stopped taking them a month ago and was waiting for a dramatic weight loss (after my dramatic weight gain while on them)! I still have a 'moon face' and bloated stomach-which could be due to all the food I consumed while on them. I still feel very nauseous and am going to try acupuncture today to see if it helps.

I definately gained weight on the steroids for a brain tumour but thankfully did not get as far as the "moon face", I have always had a chubby face and several chins alas!

The dramatic weight loss has not happened yet for me.....but I do love my food, so maybe some of its my fault!

    Good luck.

    Hi,

When my husband was on steroid, he too ballooned due to the massive eating. Then he tried to go on a diet while he was still on steroid, but the excess weight refused to shift. However as soon as he came off steroid (while he continued his slimming diet), he started losing weight.

    Good luck with the acupuncture.

I think most drugs are out of your system so to speak very quickly, usually 24 hours from taking them. That said the effects of the drugs can last a lot longer. I put on 2 stone whilst on steroids in 07, it took me about 6 months to lose the weight again, about the same time it took me to put it on. I had to diet and exercise as usual but initially it did come off quite fast.

    Good luck Jenny xxx

i've been on steroids for 3ish years. i am now at such a low dose (0.5 mg) that most of the side effects are reduced. weight gain is not an issue for me as i'm too skinny but i'm fearful that stopping them may see headaches come back.acupuncture may be helpful - do let us know how you find it.
