cuts and bruises

1 minute read time.
after being in hospital for 8 days i came out to find i couldnt log into the site again (janisrw) so here under another guise, i requested the password but nothing came baxk, i think it must be a problem with my computer. anyway all went well, 26 lymph nodes removed and partial masec. just to say thank you to all of you who answered my blog before i went in regarding what to expect. It wasnt so bad at all and Barts is an excellent hospital. In fact i actually had a laugh as there were some lovely ladies in there and the nurses were excellent. This all helps in the healing. Post op appointment revealed all the cancer cells had been zapped with chemo and surgery so now its only radiotherapy for 3 weeks. Despite being warned of cuts etc to your at risk arm i managed to nearly slice the top of my finger off on that arm how stupid am i. I drenched it with disinfectant and managed to stop the bleeding after a while and bind it up. Good job i had bought myself a first aid kit i never have a plaster in the house usually. So beware all of you who are about to have surgery for lymph node clearance and breast - buy ready chopped veggies its safer. Now i am worried about lymphodema and reeling in the disbelief of my own stupidity doh!!!!. Thanks for listening to my rants. xxxx

Dangerous thing this 5 a day lark!!  I find I have become clumsy too after mastectomy & lymph node op, So far everything dropped has landed on wipeable kitchen floor.  Happy to hear all went ok in hospital. Also they took good care of you. I can relate to what you say about fear of cuts to  side where had surgery.  After fear of reaccurance,  lymphodaema next.  I am sure though with a bit more healing & time we be less sensitive to these thoughts.  Wishing you well on your path to recovery.

Thank you both and i hope you heal quickly too.  Darned cuts after surgery just wont heal will they.  and its hard to type lol.

I just have to be more careful in future now the soreness of operation is wearing off i tend to think nothing has happened to me when it has.  So sharp knives are out from now on thats fore sure lol.

Happy healing everyone love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Hi  Jan,

Glad to hear you're home and (sort of!) safe. I'm paranoid about cuts too and of insect  bites. Mind you, you're fairly safe from the midges and mossies at this time of year.  I found that the best way to deal with minor cuts is wash, disinfect and then DRY the skin, make sure it has stopped bleeding and then spray with Elastoplast Spray Plaster. The spray really seals over the wound (in fact it's a beggar to remove!) and keeps the bugs at bay.

Good luck (and stop playing with knives!)

THANK YOU KATE, i had not heard of the spray plaster stuff so will go and purchase first thing in the morning.  Fingers crossed i think its ok it took hours and hours to stop bleeding,  Still sore but not throbbing anymore.  I suppose i will have to go to buy scissors in the early learning centre for the xmas pressie wrapping session or i will cut something else too no doubt lol.

Good job i had a skeleton first aid kit in i did this just in case, usually you can never find as much as a plaster in my house lol.  I did have savlon spray dissinfectant though as well, just as well eh!  Honestly all this fuss over a cut finger we have to be so much more careful now dont we after this little goings on.

Thanks darling, sleep well and happy healing xxxxxxxxxxxxx
