Returning to work

Less than one minute read time.

I am hoping to return to work on a 'phased return' does anybody know what is a reasonable time schedule.  I've been off work for just over a year battling with ovarian cancer. I work in a primary school and  I am looking to return to 2 consecutive mornings a week for a number of weeks and gradually increasing it to the full 5 days a week before the end of the summer term.  By September I hope (PG) to be back full time.  Has anybody out there gone back to work on a 'phased return' and if so how did you do it?  Any suggestions please!!!!!

hi there, i too am on a staged return to work- i also work in NHS  no longer in clinical role, but really busy job.  had 7 hour op for pelvic clearance (massive laparotomy, needing 50 staples  as surgery made difficult by scarring form previois op for benign ovaian cyst)  and diagnosed as stage 1 OC,  but then has 2nd op, laparoscopy for pelvic washout adn further biopsies  just befor christmas and got the all clear so ahve avoided chemo. and put omn 3 monthly checkups ca 125 down to 9 at last check up.

went back to work begining of feb on 4 hours a day, worked on average 3 days a week as using up leave, and incresed to 5 hours mid feb and 6 hours early march,   was due to increase again at beginning of april but then went inot melddown- felt very overloaded and tearful and stil very tired, so boss said stay on 6  hours a day. went back to our OH dept who are keeping me on 6 and reviewing again early june- they say it can take up to 9 months to build up to full time.  have also been told by another source that need to allow at least a month recovery time for every hour of anaesthetic    really important to pace yourself and be honest about how you are feeling- if boss not sympathetic (mine is great) see if your GP can help  .   the ovacome support nurses are alos very helpful if you email or phone them

good luck and look after yourself
