Discharged from Little Rock! Finally! (Habubrat)

1 minute read time.
Hello! Well we have finally been discharged from Little Rock this morning and will catch a flight home this afternoon. Dave is currently on a work related conference call and then we will head to the airport. He (and I) caught a nasty coughing/hacking/cold! So it is quite uncomfortable for him as he is so fatigued already. But I'm anxious to get home and in our own bed and surroundings. I was not "emotionally" prepared to stay this time beyond our plan, which was a bit of blunder in the planning part, so I'm very anxious to get home. Dave however, continues to be "textbook" and doing amazingly well, even if he doesn't think so. He is a pleasure for the docs, easy, no big issues at all. You would have laughed, one night his dry hacking cough was just brutalizing him. So at 2 am, in my jammies, clogs, no socks, I headed off to the local pharmacy (24 hour) to find a cough suppressant. Once I got there, there were just so many choices that I began to lose confidence in my ability to find the right one for him, so I called the poor on call doc and woke him up. The two of us on the phone as I'm looking up and down the isle for the right med for him. The doc was terrific. I apologized for waking him up, and he was, "No, no, I'm actually very pleased that you called. This is important and you have done a very good thing." So we are off for 6-8 weeks or more. We just have to have our second transplant no later than 6/23. So we can "chose" when to come back and will work around Dave's work schedule and how he's feeling. They encouraged him to work hard to get strong during this time. The fact that they will knock the snot out of him is tough emotionally, but if he can gain as much strength back as he can it will make the whole thing go better and he will recover quicker. While we will be home, we will be working hard to get him stronger. Catch you back in Cali! Hope you are all doing well. I think of you often. Best, Lori
