look of horror

Less than one minute read time.
I had this look again today from someone i had not seen for a while, did the usual how are you and the family etc.I then told her that my hubby had been diagnosed with AML acute myeloid leukeamia in july and was undergoing treatment, it was then i saw the look of horror on her face,i've had this look a few times now and i am curious to know if it's due to genuine shock, surprise or they think it's a definate death sentance, which we know it's not ,maybe 30 years ago,and do other people with other types of cancer ever experience this? would be grateful for your comments as i'm beginning to think i'ts because it's leukeamia and not another cancer, and is still relatively rare in comparrison to other cancers and peoples knowledge of it is still quite limited, unless you or a family member have it when you get to know about the disease very well!!

Good luck to you both with the rest of the treatment.... As for the reactions..... I remember someone telling me that we (she had also had cancer) are people's worst nightmares confronting them.... they get dazzled and irrational and there's no hiding. Love to both you and your husband.

I love that; being dazzled by someone affected by cancer - that really helps me understand what happens to people you know quite well who can't mention cancer and then wait until husband is out the room then give you the third degree.  I have a friend who has never ever said anything remotely supportive to either of us, when some just get over the dazzling and talk to us as if we are still real people...

Dazzled - must tell husband about that, thank you very much EJ and best of luck to everyone.

I agree, like dazzled.  I think Dazzled is quite nice, it kind of fits too!  They are truly DAZZLED by our ability to confront it and deal with it and still live our lives.  Yep, they're quite envious of our ability.  :)  Best,  Lori
