Just implants without flaps

Less than one minute read time.
Can someone comment on just getting implants alone and no flap surgery or why they chose flap or LD and not just implants?. It seems like most women have flap or LD surgery. Can anyone shed some light on me as to why they did or didn't choose just the implants alone.(I'm repeating myself!) I am going to have a mast next month with recon and trying to decide. Have not met with the recon doc yet. I am small to medium size breasted, but thinking of just going with the implant. I presume expander then silicone etc...HELP! Debbie

I decided on the implants alone. They place the implant under the pect muscle and sometimes the serratus anterior. He also uses a acellular matrix to help hold the lateral border in place. This is absorbed into your skin. I am not sure if you will see the implant border if it is under your muscle. Also, since Nov. 2006 silicone has been approved once again, so it is supposed to not be as hard and stiff looking as saline. The silicone feels more natural vs. the saline, so they say. Probably, in the long run, it would be better to choose the DIEP, but I can't see that far ahead now> I just want to get the surgery over and go back to my "normal life". If the implant causes alot of complications, I can get the DIEP later.
