Kitty come hooooome!

1 minute read time.

Blessed Samhain, everyone! There will be a lovely bonfire tonight. Hurrah!

At least, I hope it's hurrah. At the moment we are very worried, as our bad BoyCat stayed out all last night and hasn't reappeared this morning. I hope he's just got shut in somewhere and that whoever owns wherever he is will turn up and let him out very soon, but until then we can't do much but fret.

He may be doing it on purpose, of course, to pay us back for squeeing over KITTENS yesterday.

I shall be off to the Churchill shortly, for my pre-chemo consultation. These, I'm thankful to say, are generally non-invasive. Just as well, as I'm feeling a little wobbly and fragile, and might well burst into tears if anyone were to poke me about too much. (I have not, to date, done much, if anything, in the way of bursting into tears, but I reserve it as an emergency option.) I do have to ask about a bunch of things, including (i) continuing shortness of breath, (ii) possible build-up of ascites, (iii) will going to the dentist present a problem, (iv) is there anything that can be done to prevent the post-chemo TWINGES, because twinges up the fanny are Not Nice, and (v) almost certainly other stuff that I've forgotten. I shall probably forget all those by the time I get there. I should probably write them down. *proceeds not to do so*

I had an email from my line manager at the weekend - the poor woman never stops working - asking if I'd like to go to the team Christmas lunch. Sadly, a quick check of the cancer diary showed that the meal is on the Tuesday after chemo #5, when I shall be in the full throes of side-effect hell, so that'd be a no.

I really think we may as well cancel Christmas this year; I'm not up to shopping, let alone standing in line at the post office, and one can't do everything online. But then again - bloody cancer's miserable enough without we go giving up on the fun stuff.

Bloody cancer. Wretched cats. Oh, it's a great life, if you don't weaken!

The ShadowCat would look perfect riding pillion on a broomstick, but for the fact that he's a terrible coward. He'd be going "Eeeek, run away, run away, nowhere to run, long way down, EEEEEK!"

Of course, for all I know, that's exactly what he was doing. He's still very skittish and hasn't yet settled down. Maybe he'll get cuddly after I turn the light off.

    Blessings to you and yours!

Good morning Hilary. So glad that BoyCat is safely back home ......... I was a bit worried too !

Yes, definitely have the flu jab when you can as it's worth a sore arm - I had mine last Friday with no after-effects apart from a sore arm for a couple of days. Apparently it can't ' give you a bout of flu ' as it doesn't contain ' live ' vaccine ........ well, that's what it says on the internet, so be brave !

Mouth ulcers ....... I have had mucositis ulceration for the last three years due to the radiation damage to my mouth, I've tried just about everything and find that apart from Difflam a warm saltwater mouthrinse eases the pain ( plus Co-Codomols when needed ) I am now trying a well diluted Corsodyl Alcohol Free rinse as that may help - fingers crossed ! Take care.

    Love, Joycee xx

    Hi Joycee

Wretched BoyCat. He took years off my life yesterday, with the worry!

Consensus seems firmly pro-flu jab. I'll talk to the chemo nurse on Saturday, about that and the mouth ulcer (still only one so far) - unless things get bad in the meantime and I need to see my GP. The only trouble with having chemo on a Saturday is that it's even harder than usual to track down a hospital doctor. I think I glimpsed one last time, but they are shy woodland creatures and you have to be careful not to scare them away or make any sudden moves or loud noises. A bit like the ShadowCat, in fact.

I've been rather naughty the past few days and taken Solpadeine instead of the hospital-prescribed painkillers (my Little Red Chemo Book says quite plainly not to take over-the-counter medicine). Because it's soluble, it works faster - at least, I think so. I thought it might help my sore throat, too, but it didn't.

We're probably going into Bicester this afternoon - I'll ask in the chemist about Difflam.

Thank you! I'm sorry you suffer with ulcers. Is that permanent now?

    xx

Hello again Hilary. Yes, the Difflam will ease the pain of your ulcer, they do the mouthrinse and also a handy spray with a ' spout ' thingie so that you can target just the sore - maybe that will be more convenient for you. Hopefully my ulcers will eventually heal ( that's what the Consultant says ! ) it's just a question of time ...........

Good luck with your chemo on Saturday and happy hunting for the Lesser Spotted Hospital Doctor !
