Debs Daily Deliberations - 16

3 minute read time.
Okie Bloody Dokie, I am sat here trying to calm down by drinking a cuppa tea and having marmite on toast for breakfast at midday!!!!!!!!!!! No I am not lazy and overslept, we left at 8.10am to get to Queens for my 9.20am radiotherapy appt. Today was totally spooky, got to near Romford and no traffic.....literally like a Ghost Town, I was beginning to wonder if the 3 minute warning had been broadcast......except on Capital Radio LOL Walked into oncology.......NO ONE in the waiting room! Spoke to Heather the bestest receptionist in the world and commented on how quiet the hospital was, she then said "yes but did you notice how quiet the roads were", glad to know it wasn't just us then. Badda bing badda boom.......zip zam zoom head radiated and done in a timely fashion - not much to complain about so far right........stay with me kiddo's. BUT....it was Wednesday, oncologist day .....day of mighty waiting and today was no exception, we wandered cheerily into the waiting room (which has tiny little windows, way up high which are never open, the air is stale and everyone who came in stank of smoke - sorry smokers!) and there we sat, amazingly a new lady doc came and got me within minutes. Thought it was strange but said nowt..........sat down and she says....."oh you are one of Dr Staples patients, really sorry- I can't see you" we laughed ad wandered back to the waiting room - which was filling up fast. Where am I going with this, at 11am I said to Tony, thats it, we are going home. I have been so lucky, no side-effects during this radiotherapy whatsover, except the Andy from Little Britain hairstyle I am now sporting under my hat. So sitting waiting for well over an hour to see a doc who asks me how I am, looks at me bonce and off we go in under 5mins seems pointless..........especially as Tony has to get back for work and make up any lost time, so today he has to make up 4 hours as it was gone midday when he strolled into work. "Come on, we are off "...........and back to reception to say that we can't wait any longer but will back tomorrow for more head zapping - not rude or anything as its hardly the receptionists fault......she tells me "I've rung Dr Staples a few times now and she assures me she is on her way, can you not wait another 10mins" I politely say no we can't and I feel fine anyway........at this point Dr Staples saunters into oncology and I say, "hello Emma, sorry but we are off, we can't wait any longer", she smiles back and says "sorry they only rang me 5mins ago" - ermmmmm your clinic starts at 10am and you are blaming the receptionist for not ringing you until 10.55am.....norti norti doc!!!!!!! she then adds "are you ok?", I answer "yes I am fine thanks, I will see you next week" and we exit. Was that naughty or bad of me........I just feel so pressured because of the time constraints Tony is under. I really do have to learn to be a more patient "patient". So whilst typing thisI have managed to eat two very thick cut slices of fresh seedy bread with too much butter and marmite to be good for anyone - this also means I will have heartburn in less than hour (serve me right huh). Now I dont want to put the NHS down, they have served me so well thus far........but the waiting OMG its a killer (not literally mind LOL) and they really don't understand that people have jobs and commitments of their own, especially when the doctors have no concept of time and keeping to appointments and schedules!!!! HELLOOOOOOOOO real world. OK thats me moan for the week done and dusted. Now, need to find a cheery quote for today and one without boogers!!! Begin doing what you want to do now. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand -- and melting like a snowflake Marie Beyon Ray

    Hi Debs,

Please be very careful what you blog.........

After all, there are NOT that many of us who like Marmite!

Have you tried that Australian cr*p called Vegemite?

(And before anyone complains, I have most of my family in Adelaide and they can't stand the festering stuff, either)

Thanks for another good one - keep them coming

    Much luv

    Steve

    hi debs,

don't like the marmite OR the waiting around for apts, but hey what else do we have to do with our time, unfortunatly at times live it around waiting rooms, sometimes being forgotten, or waiting ages for to be in and out with dr for 2 seconds after waiting approx an hour due to delays so know what you mean sometimes, but there are some great staff out there but also sometimes some not so patient patients ...us......... guess we have to be MORE patient,

enjoy reading your blogs, take care viv

I agree, but have to admit with one very rare exception with the surgeon for the results, I have normally been seen roughly on time at oncology - couple of times I've had to wait 15-30 mins.  But the one that got me was the last chemo at the GP's surgery - not my GP's, the receptionist forgot to let my poor nurse know I was there and then when I said sorry you didn't buzz to let her know, did the receptionist say sorry - nah just said we've been rushed of our feet!

Good blog, I had two think slices of granary toasted with butter and homemade bramble jam, did the marmite yesterday.

    Love

    Carol xx
