Recon advice

Less than one minute read time.
I'm a new member - just registered. I had a double mastectomy May 28, 2008. I did not get reconstruction at the time of my surgery. My surgeon recommended I wait until after chemotherapy treatment. I completed my last taxol treatment Nov 29. Am now thinking of reconstruction. I am only 39 - am very self concious about how I look in the mirror. I don't like it much! I have applied for financial assistance through a non-profit organization as I do not have any health insurance to pay for this. They want me to go see a surgeon and get a "written estimate" before they tell me how much they can assist me with(hopefully 100%). I don't know much about cost - if anyone can give me a clue??? or about the different types of reconstruction choices??? I keep saying prayers and keeping my fingers crossed that I can go for surgery as soon as possible!

get those feet up and rest, walking is good start for exercise though, you will all of a sudden wake up and say hey! i feel so much better today and so it goes on and the better you will feel.  If you have a job go back to it its a great way of feeling normal, i started back full time for a few days then part time for the rest of the week - being with colleagues is fab and takes your mind off it all.

thanks for asking I am fine, just started radio therapy today but will take it easy and have week off when its all over and just stay in bed with book lol.

Take care, big old hug xxxxxxxxxxxx

Sorry so long to reply.  I have been back to work, and am VERY BUSY!  I guess that's good, keeps me out of trouble!  How's the radio therapy going?  Hope you are feeling okay.  I never had to have radio therapy - how does it feel?  Is is very painful?  I hope not too bad.

Well, I've been playing a little bit of racquet ball this week.  Not overdoing it!  So, I feel a little sore, but not too bad.  It's a lot of fun - and I enjoy being with my friends!

Well, enjoy your book!  Take care - hugs.

oh fantastic you are back at work.  I started back full time hours again beginning of this month and love ev ery moment of it, its so much better being at work as you forget about having cancer and treatments and just get on with things.  I have just finished two weeks of three of radio - its only down the road from work so its easy to just nip there every day.  Next week is my last week hoooray and its all over, i will be in remission and hope forever as we all do.

For anyone about to have radio therapy ITS A DODDLE in comparison to chemo its painless as long as you put the cream on lots so you dont get sore.  Its not a problem and the easiest out of the three stages.  So dont be put off from it its a doddle honestly.

    Happy healing to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
