Is it that time already??

1 minute read time.

Yes peeps its scan time again...its been four months since the last lot and boy its gone by quick.  I have a CT Tuesday and MUGA Wednesday. Fingers crossed for good results hey?? Although I have been feeling really well I have been getting very tired and also had a bit of a niggling cough but we'll see.  I just find this to be the toughest time to get through. My treatment is a breeze and I am really quite busy on a daily basis I kind of forget I'm ill.  Its really only scan time that I think/worry about it.  I have been feeling really stressed this week and a bit snappy with the kids which I hate doing and I dont mean to its just how I feel.  Also my dad has been in hospital this week.  Hes had a drink problem as long as I can remember and now and again he has episodes where he gets really down and drinks more.  Lately he has been on antidepressants and recently got some beta blockers for a heart abnormality.  Well on Wednesday he phoned my sister at work and asked her to go round so she did and she said when she got there he was absolutely hammered and had trashed the house.  He was being really nasty to her but my mum came home and they managed to sort him out.  Well the next day mum took him to the Dr who got him admitted to hospital and hes now on detox til Tuesday.  He's loving it apparently but we are just worried about how he will feel when he's home and back in reality where all his old problems will be waiting for him and theres a shop over the road selling any kind of alcohol you could ever wish for.  I wonder if he realises how lucky he is to have the option to turn his life around and be well and healthy when theres people like us who dont have a choice about what happens??

Kate the MUGA scan is what they use at my hospital to monitor my heart whilst on Herceptin.  Basically I go along and they inject me in my arm with a tracer and then I go off for half an hour and they inject me again with radioactive isoptopes.  Then I lay on a narrow bed and the machine is moved to my left side where it takes images of the heart during the scan. I also get attached to an ECG.  The scan looks at how the heart pumps the blood around the body so when blood goes into the heart it is said to be 100% full I suppose and then it measures how much gets pumped out again...anything over 50% is said to be normal. If it goes below 50% they usually stop treatment for a bit.  And yes I agree it does sound rather aggressive but it stands for (and this is the science bit...)multiple uptake gated aqcuisition!!
