Complications

1 minute read time.

after reading all the blogs and the forum posts in head and neck forum i feel like i am in need of advise, i have got complications where i have to take other medications for other problems, and the way people have problems with swallowing most except my insulin is swallowed and if i cant swallow then i cant tale and keep my other conditions under control, i know i am being a bit silly but after having been told i am to have 40 bouts of radio therapy over an 8 week period it worried me that my medications that help me with my control of Diabetes & Epilepsy will not be taken into account.

Are there any others on here that have the same two other controllable conditions that have been a problem to them during cancer treatment, and if any other painkilling meds contra  indicate with any of the drugs i am already on. My partner tells me not to worry but if i have another fit i lose my driving licence again for another 12 months until i am fit free and that means i would lose my job too, if push comes to shove then i wont have the treatment if it is going  to upset my well controlled other illnesses, I know what you will say but as we are all in the same boat of having this vile disease control us it should be the other way round and we should be able to control the cancer to work in our favour.

Comments are welcome from anyone who can or has had trouble with other meds in any other complications while this vile disease has or is being treated

I am sure your Drs will take this into consideration and put in place a method of administration for your medicines.

Talk to the medical team and tell them your fears.

I am sure that they wouldn't want to  send your other conditions out of control.

    Take care Love Julie xx

    Hi Al,

It sound like its time for the old nasal/gastric tube.

They can administer your drugs that way and it is easy and simple to use. No doubt if thats the way your Drs want you to go they will tell you more.

Keep in touch and let me know how things go.

Take care and be safe Sarsfield.xx

I had a PEG tube fitted into my stomach which was there for nearly a year, all my meds went down it and I was able to get them all in soluble form . There were some that didn't come in soluable form and it was just a case of crushing them up and mixing them with water before putting them down the tube. They have encountered all this before so try not to worry. Take care and Good Luck. Nina

Like Nina I also had a PEG fitted a few weeks into my treatment. All meds went through the tube,no problems at all!

Biggles, please remember that we can all react differently to our treatment so use other people's experiences as a guideline only.

    Big hugs. Alison.x
